"Operation Failed" Message

Upon opening Outlook, I receive an 'Operation Failed' message. Right before I
initially closed Outlook, the following keys tshcv become non-responsive. So
I closed out of Outlook. They only work with while holding down the shift
key. If I engage the CAPS lock, they still do not work. This is not hardware
related because other members in my department experience the same thing.
We're running WindowsXP, SP2...Office2K3, SP2. I also run Remote Desktop all
day into my home PC from work. I primarily experience this issue when
composing a new note in Outlook. If I open Notepad, the keys work just fine.
Does anyone know why this is?
Thanks in advance!

Since this is happening to others as well, has there been any additional software installed that interacts with Outlook, such as Add-Ins or anything else. Basically looking for some commanility between the systems besise the fact they are both using Outlook. Does it actually affect everyone in the dept or some?

If not start with the simple first by running Windows and Office Updates as well as doing a Detect and Repair on Outlook. If still not working recreate the Outlook profile.
