I have a stand-alone computer with Win XP Media Centre, and have a problem--I
cannot access items like "properties" on the start button when it is
right-clicked, as well as other operations in which I am denied permission.
The same message comes up for all instances of my problem: "This operation
has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please
contact your system administrator." I have placed all the various groups
into my log-in account, incl. administrator, power user, etc etc and I am the
only person using the computer, and have all the permissions offered/needed
by the computer. What do I need to do in order to access what I wish?

Hey,

Its got to be either an issue with the permissions alloted for the user
accounts or Spyware.
Lets check that out.

Hit start -> Run -> Type in "control userpasswords2" and hit enter.
This new window will list out the user accounts available with this computer.
Check out that the Account name with which u log in is in the administrator
group.

U can also have a try in creating a new user account with administrator
access and check whether u have the same problem in that.

If not, its got to be a spyware issue.
Do some scans to delete them.

Gud luck.

Thank you for your answer, band I tried what you had suggested, only to find
it was just as I set up--my account I log in to has all the permissions
possible.

This problem has always been with this computer, before it was hooked up to
any internet connections. So I doubt it is spyware. Thanks anyway.
