Is it possible to transfer pre-loaded (i.e. no program media) XP Home from my
desktop to my laptop (currently running ME)? If yes, how? I've got the
respective license numbers. I'll replace the desktop XP Home with a new
installation of XP Professional.

You cannot transfer a preinstalled OEM version of Windows XP
from the original computer. The license is directly tied to the computer
it was first installed on.

Not only this, but the pre-installed version can be "locked" to the original
PC. That is to say: The Windows XP needs to detect something specific on
the original PC (usually BIOS) for the XP to install.work.
