Opera and Firefox browser failures

The last time Firefox updated itself, I lost all bookmarks and most
functionality. I tried uploading the bookmarks html file from my hard-
drive but although the process seemed correct, nothing has appeared.
Lots of other problems are evident too. So I've gotten rid of Firefox.
I'cve tried downloading an earlier version but for some reason the
same problems persisted.
Downloaded Opera instead, which seems a good browser, but suddenly
every single time I open a new window, such as Gmail or any website I
want to browse, I get the following message:
"The file or directory \Documents and Settings\Anthony\Local Settings
\Application Data\Opera\PROFILE\OPCACHE is corrupt and
unreadable.Please run the Chkdsk utility."
Running Chkdsk does nothing to solve this. I have moved Opera from my
C drive to a different (E) partition, but the message keeps recurring.
Strangely, I find I run into these problems every time my son returns
home to visit. He believes I need his help in reconfiguring my
computer, and it takes an eternity after he leaves to get it to
function properly again. Is there an easy fix for this problem, which
I'm sure he's caused somehow?

Back up your data and reinstall Windows and set a good password and
don't let your son touch your computer again.

As the last resort, that might be what I'll have to do. However, he
has to use the computer to try to find work as an industrial designer
(he's just returned to Australia after a year working in San Fran) so
I can't bar him. And while he uses it to find gainful employment,
there's no way I can stop him 'tweaking' my system!

You could set an administrator account for you and a limited account for
him when you reinstall Windows and tell him not to use your account or
fool with the Operating System. If you think he won't listen, perhaps
you should give him the computer the way it is and buy another for yourself.

Or, better, an administrator account to use only when actually needed
(installing stuff, etc.) and limited accounts for the rest of the
family.

That's the way I run XP, Vista, and I haven't had any major trouble.
