Does anybody know how to make a sheet of labels for envelopes and packages
on OOo 1.1?

Then tell me. In particular, I'd like to make three or four labels from my
database on a 30-label sheet, maybe starting with, say, the second row, third
column.

The Avery company (label maker) site has templates for what
you're trying to do. You can set them up yourself, but the
premade templates are quick and accurate.

Go to File/New/Labels. One of the tabs lets you print just one label, and
choose where on the sheet it goes. Then you can just copy the text into
however many labels you want.
