OpenNetCF - Retrieving Latest Source

N

Nick Randolph

Chris, and the other folks at OpenNetCF,

Is there an easy way to download the latest source from OpenNetCF? I have
looked around at the SourceBrowser which is useful for browsing the source
folders, but I was interested in downloading the complete framework (latest
source). Was wondering whether it is possible to ftp to download the lot in
one hit?

Cheers

The latest SDF code is posted at the bottom of the SDF page. We're have
another release Monday, so I'd not bother until then as the new stuff will
be substantially different.

But the source in the browser is different from the download package. I
think Nick is asking if it would be possible to get a public read only
cvs account so we can build the latest version ourselves. When there
were problems with the serial library we actually had to cut out the
line numbers from the source browser version, to use the working code.

We try and make available updated source packages on the SDF page on the
site (www.opennetcf.org/sdf/) when there are major changes, however since
the source browser (and indeed the zip packages) require manual labour to
update we can't realistically provide them for every change made.
The SourceBrowser can be used to download entire code files, click the
download link at the bottom of the page when viewing the source. This will
give you the original source file so no line numbers to remove.
However we'll definitely investigate ways to make this easier as updates are
released following the v1.1 release due next week.

In those cases it's actually a mistake that the source in the browser is
available before a full download. We're investigating source repositorires
that will provide this functionality, but have yet to find something that
really provides what we need.

Surely the one of the points of OpenNETCF was that everyone can contribute -
doesn't that mean that we are able to get access to the current source, see
what works and what doesn't, see what could be added/improved and to make
suggestions to you guys to improve the already brilliant offering?

That's the idea yes, and we have a pretty frequent publication schedule.
Our current source control system only allos 20 users, and all users have
full read and write rights, so it's just not an option to allow everyone
direct access to it. We also find it would generate more "support"
requests, as many users expect all pieces of a download to just work. If
you have a specific library you want to work on, you can always apply for
membership in the workspace. We have never rejected anyone who specifically
requested it because they had something to contribute. So if you want to
work on the library and publish fixes and work back to the source
repository, we've got amechanism for that to happen. If you'd like to know
more, just email us.

Thanks for that, I suppose my original request came because I hadn't been
following the progress on the various classes since v1.0 and wanted to get
access to some of the cool stuff in v1.1.

Now that its out, I can't wait to get coding ;-)
