opening works files in word

I recently had to have all programs removed from my
computer and have it reloaded. I downloaded several files
to a floppy disc that had originally been written and
saved on microsoft works. My computer was reloaded and
the computer person installed microsoft word and removed
the works program. Now I cannot open the files that were
saved in works. Does anyone have any suggestions how to
open these files.

From the Word (or Office) CD, install the filters to read Works file.
The computer person simply didn't choose to install them. This person
will know what to do if you prompt them with this.
