opening wordperfect documents in word

When I try to open wordperfect documents in word, a pop-up box appears that
shows the location of the document it's trying to open, the progress (usually
79%) and then says Wordperfect Graphics Import 8.0. Word freezes up and I
have to close it out to do anything. Is there anyway around this? I don't
have wordperfect on my computer and can't install it since it's a work
computer. Just curious. I do have access to wordperfect on another machine,
but trying to see if this can be done.
 
There's no way 'round this other than using WordPerfect to remove the
offending graphic. Microsoft Word's WP converter can't convert one of the
WordPerfect graphics embedded in the document.
