Opening Word Document

I have a Word Document that is linked to an Excel file. When I run this
document on it's own, I get the prompt box informing me that "Opening this
document will run the following SQL command....", which it should.

I am trying to open this same document from Access. I am using a command
button to open this document, which works fine except for that fact that I
don't get the prompt box, and the information displayed in the document is
the old data the last time I opened the Word Document on it's own.

I am confused as to what I am missing, or is it that by running a word
document from Access disable the linked data to Excel??

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Jerry,

I'm not sure just what you mean by "is linked to an Excel file": that
can cover a variety of situations. But at a guess whatever technique you
are using to open the Word document isn't triggering the "update links
on open" feature.

Whether or not this is the case, this is a Word problem more than an
Access one. I suggest you post in a Word forum, either the Word
Programming newsgroup via the Microsoft website or - and probably better
- microsoft.public.word.oleinterop, which is accessible via
http://groups.google.com or by using Outlook Express to log in to
news.microsoft.com.

Thanks for the Reply John,

I did a post in the Word section like you suggested, but I'll try to be a
bit more specifice in case it is an Access issue.

I have a report I do in Access that I wanted to be able to store in a Word
Document. I created a template in Word, and used the MailMerge to link to
the data table in Access. However, on my report, there are calculations done
that are not stored in the table, and that can not also be done in Word.

So, I found that if I export my report from Access to an Excel file, it
stores all the values, even the calculated values done on the report itself.
Now I can link my Word Template to Excel file via the MailMerge. Works great
only when I open the Word template outside of Access.

When I click the command button in Access to open up that same Word
template, it does open fine, but just doesn't run the SQL command to update
the template to the current data in the Excel file. I always get the old
data from the last time I ran the Word Template on it's own outside of Access.
