Opening word document from data disc

Barry

Could someone help please,I recently sent a friend a data
disc containing my own Word document file. When she opened
it she said it was mostly in "Greek" with a few bits in
English, what advice could I give her to allow her to open
the file in a readable format.
thanks

First, have her copy the file(s) to her hard disk. Then open the files
from there.

Opening files in Word from a floppy disks is the No. 1 easiest way to
corrupt Word document files.

Hi Barry,

Was it literally Greek of did she mean that it contained a whole lot of
meaningless information. If the latter, it could be that in the File Open
dialog she has the Files of type set to "Recover Text from any file". If
that's the case, she should change that setting to Word Documents. In
addition, a document should never be opened from a floppy disk. It should
always be copied to the hard disk and opened from there.

Please respond to the newsgroups for the benefit of others who may be
interested.

Hope this helps

Thanks Rob, I'll pass that on to her and see if that helps,
Cheers.
