My friend was dying and gave me his laptop with windows 2000 pro installed. he died if a sudden heart attack before he could give me the administator's pass word. I can't do anything with it without the password. I went into the motherboard set up and deleted any passwords there but still can't get around the w2000password. I want to dump the win 2000 and install my xp but can't even get in to delete the program. Is there a way to bypass the admin so I can modify the laptop?

Oh, yes you can...
Go into the BIOS and reset your first boot order to CD-ROM.
Put the XP Installation disk in the tray.
Power down.
Start it ( if has a bootable CD-ROM, you will get the screen to Install and then you can set
the partitions and choose whether you want FAT32 or NTFS for a file system. Most use NTFS.
Give yourself a min. of 8 gig for an OS partition if you want to have a separate data
partition. If the HDD is relatively small, I would use a BASIC partition and make an ISO
when you get the basics loaded.
