Opening old documents

I have a 3.5 diskette with some documents on it that may
be as old as Windows 95 or 98, and some may be in MS Word
or Wordperfect. They are not MAC documents.

When I tried to open them in my Windows XP/MS Word
program, the message I got was that the diskette was not
formatted or formatted for a MAC, and that is is
inaccessible.

Is there any way for me to recover these older files so I
can update them and save them on my new computer?
 
Can you access the disk in the control panel? If so, drag the contents to a folder
and try opening them.
