Recently, when I click on a folder located on my desktop, instead of the
folder opening, I get the search window instead. Anyone having that problem
and what has been done to get back to the old way of clicking the folder and
it opens?

See XP-FIXES at Doug's site, below.

This problem occurs when you alter the "File Folders" entries via File Types dialog, to add a "Command Prompt here" or "Print Directory" feature for folders. (example)

Click Start/Run and type this command to fix this problem:
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
