Hello,

whenever you open files from an external USB hard drive, are they
actually saved on the hard drive of the local computer? E.g. when you
open Word-files or MP3s, are they (temporarily) stored on the local
hard drive? Are they deleted, afterwards?

Thank you in advance.

That depends on the application being used. As for *.doc files opened
with MS Word, there will be temporary files created on the local drive.
Are they deleted, afterwards?

That depends on the particular application and other circumstances.
If "Word" crashes for instance, the temp files will remain.

Temporary files are stored on whatever drive you opened the file in. The
part of the file you're working on is in memory.
