Opening excel files

I have been having an issue with opening excel files. I
have officeXP on a windows2000 Pro machine. I have an
excel file on my desktop that, when, double-clicked will
launch excel but the worksheet doesn't open. This happens
to many files not just that particular one. I then have to
go manually to file>open to get the worksheet to open. I
couldn't find anything related to this issue in the
support center. Does anyone know why this happens? Thanks
in advance for your help.

Hi Tim
some ideas:
1. goto 'tools - Options -General' and uncheck 'Ignore other
applications'

2. If 1. does not help try closing excel and reregistering it with
windows.
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver
