Opening Excel file in IE 6

How can you set the preference/option to view an Excel
file from a hyperlink so that it launches Excel and opens
the file in a separate Excel window vs. displaying the
file in the browser. Currently, the file is displayed in
the browser and none of the top menu bar items work with
the exception of the "File" and "Window" options. The
file displays correctly on other PCs in the department
all with various Windows operating systems) and all of
the menu bar items are available.

The Excel file is a hyperlink from our internal staff
website and resides on our internal server. The webpage
was developed in MS Frontpage and the hyperlink "target
frame" is set to open a new window so I think everything
on the back end is set up properly.

I believe there is a setting for this

Have you recieved an answer on this?
I'm having somewhat of the same problem. When I click on
the link in a web page to open an excel spreadsheet it
asks if I want to open or save. I say open (it's too big
to save and I open it too many times in a day to be saving
it all the time). But when it opens the status bar is
greyed out which means I cannot highlight numbers and get
their sum which you could do if you saved it to excel.
The status bar is there when I'm not looking at excel
files.
I'm using IE 6.0 SP1. WinXP, Office 2003.
Any suggestions? thanks.
