Opening excel 2000 worksheets in office 97

if you send an excel 2000 archive to someone who has office 97, could this person open it?
 
I have 97 and 2000 on the same machine and have no problems.

There may be problems with macros & formulas if they contain update
commands not in 97
 
If an "archive" is a file/workbook, no problem.

XL97, 2000, 2002 and 2003 have the same file format.
