opening email

I have a problem with Outlook, for instance – if I have two emails sitting in
the Inbox and I open the oldest one first, then the computer automatically
opens the most current one above it.

Is there an option to turn this off or change this?
 
Tools, Options, email options button, change the setting "After moving or
opening an item" to "Return to Inbox."
 
Antivirus integration enabled? If it is then disable it.
SMTP can be POP/SMTP or IMAP4/SMTP. I've seen this issue with IMAP. If it is
POP3 then try and purge any messages save on the server with another email
application.
