Opening E-Mails as Files

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write to ask about a sudden issue I am having with reading a certain kind
of file on my computer. For reference, I use Outlook 2000 on Windows XP with
Service Pack 2.

Basically, in an effort to keep my 'Inbox' tidy whilst not wishing to
dispose of an E-Mail outright, I have occassionally copied E-Mails and pasted
them into 'My Documents' as separate files.

I have had no difficulty reading these again in the past, or even copying
them back into Outlook. However, following a recent back up of my computer, I
suddenly find I can neither open these files, nor paste them into Outlook. If
I try to open a file Outlook will clearly open briefly (appearing for a
second on the taskbar) and then nothing further will happen or, if the
program is already open, it will simply flash orange on the taskbar. If I try
to copy and paste a file into any folder in Outlook, it will (without
response) fail.

I cannot account for this sudden change and hope that someone will be able
to advise me as to the proper course to resolve the issue.

Thanking you in advance,

Do you have Google Desktop Search installed? Their recent/latest version are
known to cause this issue.

If you are saving these emails as .msg files and also have Google Desktop,
this is likely the problem. Disable the email integration in Google Desktop
or uninstall it.
