Opening .doc with Word - not IE?

I need to open a locally stored Word-document from a webpage (intranet), and have Word open this file for editing. The server is a MS IIS server, and it works fine using a file:/// link, on Win2K/IE5.5, but not with XP/IE6?

The problem is, that in XP/IE6 the Word-doc is opened inside IE (but with the Word app. toolbars etc.), and this gives the file a generic title of "Document in Microsoft Internet Explorer".

My question: Is there any way to make Word open this file by itself, preserving the doc-title, instead of opening 'inside' IE, giving the file a generic name?

Depending on how the URL is generated on your page you may try to force some
HTTP header settings.
Look at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q260519 for
example and the referenced RFCs.
hth, but this is a never ending story :-(
