Opening a File in Excel 2007

I recently installed Excel 2007. OS is XP Pro.

When I try to open a worksheet, the application opens but does not display
the worksheet. To view the worksheet, I have to click somewhere within the
application (such as by the Office Button, clicking Options, and then
canceling out of Options), at which point the worksheet is displayed. Does
anyone know why this happens and how to resolve it?
