Opening a file causes Excel to close

I've been given a user's problem file, which was created or
modified on their system (Win98, Excel 2000). When they
attempted to open it (via the File -> Open menu option),
their Excel session closed down.

I've tried this file (Win2k, Excel 2000) and the same is true
for me.

I know the user was working in the VBE on this file, prior
to saving it, and that since then (they say) it has never
opened correctly.

Is there anything I can try, please?

Sounds like it might be something in a Workbook_Open event macro.

You do not say if you have set Excel to disable macros before openin
the file. (via Tools/Options/General/Macro virus protection).

If you have disabled macros and it still won't open then the file i
probably corrupted. Try the free downloadable Microsoft Excel fil
viewer XLVIEW.EXE
