I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio PCG-FX801 laptop
for my wife. The laptop has XP Home Edition installed.
When I insert a CD/R I have created on my desktop PC I
receive the XP opening window asking me what I would like
to do with the data on the CD.

I have placed some MP3 files, Jpeg Image files & Word
documents on the disc, but when I select the option to
open the disk as a folder the mouse pointer indecats that
it is doing it with an hour glass. The hour glass stay's
onscreen for a few seconds, but nothing else happens & no
window opens to display the contents of the disk.

The CD-ROM/DVD Drive is working correctly, as it reads
any DVD I try in it & all other CDRoms (Purchased
Softwear such as games) & Audio CD's. I Can also access
all the MP3 files on the CD/R disk I have created,
through Sonicstage & play them.

I am unable however to open the disk to veiw either the
Document Files or the Jpeg images on the disk!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure you have a CD-R and NOT a CD-RW ? I know music CD-RW's won't
play on anything except a computer; I am wondering if this means only the
computer of its creation. If definitely what you say, I' defer to others.

Not all CD drives are created equal, and not all CD-R discs are equal
either. Sometimes a disc burned on one machine just won't read in another,
no matter what you do. You could try burning it again, preferably to a
different brand of disc.

However, if the disc was created using packet writing software such as
Nero's InCD, then you must install an XP compatible version of this software
on the target machine before it can be read correctly.
