Opening 2003 ppt in Powerpoint 2007

Hi

I have a number of presentations created using office XP. I have
since upgraded to Office 2007. When i go to open any of these
presentations, the text alignment is all wrong - for example, when i
try to edit text, the cursor mysteriously positions itself below the
text on the line below and does not position itself (as you would
expect) under the character i want to edit. This is most anoying and
irritating.

The problem i have described only seems to affect powerpoint 2007 for
some reason. This is the reverse of the situation where you try to
open a 2007 presentatation using an earlier version of powerpoint (for
which you would use the 2007 office compatibility viewers).

Any help that anyone can provide will be appreciated greatly, as this
is one of the most irritating compatibility issues i have ever faced.

thanks

Install a Windows-certfied printer driver and set it as the default printer.
Any that ship with Windows (XP or Vista) should be certified. Here are
instrux:

How to install a local printer driver
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00605.htm

That should resolve the issue.

I also suffer from PowerPoint 2007 compatibility problem, and M$ has
no replies to this. As I've stored numerous presentations created in
PowerPoint 2003, I have to install both PowerPoint 2003 and 2007 to
avoid compatibility issue.

Alternatively I ever tried other ways to store my old presentations. I
transform them to web pages, video files and Flash movies. If you like
so, I can offer you some tools:
PPT2HTML: http://www.pptools.com/ppt2html
PPT2DVD: http://www.ppt-to-dvd.com
Wondershare PPT2Flash: http://www.sameshow.com/powerpoint-to-flash.html

THANK GOD for you!! I support a school district with teachers who have 100s
of ppt files they use for teaching. This was making me INSANE. Installing a
printer as described below and making it the default in the install process,
then immediately setting the default printer back solved the problem.

(I did test not making it the default in the install, and then setting it as
default after, and that only fixed it if that dummy printer were the default,
and not if another printer was then selected for a default and the only way
to fix it was install a DIFFERENT type of dummy printer with different print
driver).

Anyway, thank you for this info.

Oh, how interesting. Thanks for posting that followup information about
setting it as default during the install process, Arline. That's really
wild.

Anyway, I'm really glad to hear you worked out a fix!
