OpenGL

Hi,

some of the new games are capable of running in OpenGL mode, too. I wonder
where I can get those drivers for my card (X800) for WinXP if there are
any.

BTW: I've installed the OmegaDrivers as they run more stable than the
latest CAT.

The Catalysts and Omega drivers have OpenGL drivers built in. Just
don't downloads video card drivers from Microsoft.

I wasn't aware of this ;-) However I do not have a single clue how to
enable OpenGL e.g. in games like Unreal 2/Unreal Tournament 2k3-2k4/Tribes
Venegeance...

The settings dialog in UT2k4 gives me the option to choose between Software
or DirectX. Is "Software" meant to be OpenGL?

Perhaps you know something more details about this?

Venegeance...

In Unreal engined games you can usually enable OpenGL by editing the
games config file, e.g. for UT2004 edit <UT
directory>/system/ut2004.ini and in the [Engine.Engine] section put a
; in front of the D3D line and take out the ; in front of the OpenGL
line.

No, software means software, i.e. no hardware 3D acceleration.

I have been an Unreal (and subsequently UT/UT2004) addict since the
day it was released

X800 cards run slightly better(a few more FPS) in Direct3D games than in
OpenGL games ,so I see no point in running games in OpenGL if the game
wasn't built specifically in OpenGL(eg. Doom 3,KOTOR...).

quality as the default Direct3D setting?

However I do since e.g. UT2k4 throws some very nasty exceptions from time
to time (D3DERR_DRIVERINTERNALERROR - as I reported somewhere in this NG
earlier)

For this reason I'm trying to run various games which are crashing in
OpenGL.
