open Word 2002 with Paste active

When I open Word 2002, I can't immediately paste the copy I have in RAM.
This is damned irritating.
I copy all sorts of things on the Internet with the intention of pasting
into a Word 2002 document.
BUT when I open Word 2002 to copy the info into a document, I have to
activate the paste function by typing in something (jumbled key strokes).
Then I have to copy the jumbled key strokes and then paste the jumbled key
strokes.
Only then is the document ready to receive what I copied from a Web site.
Meanwhile, the copy from the Web site is gone, and I have to go back and
copy it all over again. Damned nuisance.
How can I change the defaults so that when I open a new Word document, the
Paste function is active?
I'm a real novice at this, so I need the pathway from the beginning; e.g.
(for example) Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools
Thanks a lot!

It would probably suffice to just start Word, copy from the Web, then paste.
Some add-ins clear the Clipboard when Word starts; among these is the
Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word. If you have Word as part of Works
Suite but are using it freestanding (not starting it from the Works Task
Launcher), you can save yourself a lot of grief on this and many other
fronts by uninstalling the add-in.

Did your copy of Word come from the Microsoft Works Suite? If so, the
Works Add-In for Word is the culprit -- it clears the clipboard while
Word is starting up.

A quick workaround is to start Word first, then switch back to the
browser (with Alt+Tab) to copy the text, switch to Word and paste.
(The typing of jumbled characters isn't necessary.)

The permanent fix is to go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add
and Remove Programs, click the Works Add-In for Word, and click the
Remove button. You won't lose much in the way of functionality, and
the annoyance will stop.
