open with fails

Hi.
Running XP-PRO
When a file assoc. is attempted it fails to associate a
proprietary file type with a certain executable. The file
type can be associated with notepad. Computer seems to be
fine otherwise, no startup or shutdown problems.

Please define prorietary file type. Have you run a virus scan as a virus
can change the properties of executables causing this type of problem.
