Open With dialog box won't open

Opening a file without an association, I get the windows cannot open this
file: I choose Select the program from a list and click OK, but the Open
With won't pop up. What would prevent this from happening. Thanks in
advance for any assistance you can provide.

Without an association, I don't believe anybody gets an Open With. Once
you give it an association, then you should get one.
 
Thanks Bill, but that's not true. It will allow you to browse the internet
or choose a program on your computer to associate the file with. The problem
is the dialog box won't open to select the program.

Hi, Bill
I think you are missing the OP's point.
Try this:
Create a new text document and then change the extension to .jklmnop
Now right click the file's icon and choose open.
You should get a window saying Windows cannot open this file, and give you
two options:
-Use the Web service to find the appropriate program, and
-Select the program from a list.

I think the OP is choosing the second option.
When I do this, I get an 'Open With' window. I think the OP is saying that
she does not get the 'Open With' window.

I don't know what could be wrong, but perhaps you have the expertise to help
her.

Oh I see. I thought you wanted the right click Open With option to
appear. Which doesn't until it has an association attached to it first.

Register Shell32.dll.

Copy and paste this line into the Run box:
regsvr32.exe /i shell32.dll

Did it work?
