I've gotten tired of the constant need to buy extensions and more
licenses for virus protection. In my case pc-cillun and prior to that
McAfee.
I buy an $89 package, but it turns out to only be good for one
machine. My home lan has 5 machines, so their 5 user license is
$150. I believe McAfee and some others have a similar setup.
I'm wondering if users here can comment on some of the open source
offerings for virus protection? Are there packages that are
comparable to the commercial stuff? Has any one used an open source
virus tool over time and can testify to its effectiveness?
Another route would be learning of a package that can be purchased and
then run on as many machines as one likes. Maybe with a year of
signature updates or whatever, and a price tag near $100.
In other words, are there better solutions out there that are less of
pain to keep up than pc-cillun or McAfee? And do not carry such hefty
price tag?
