Open Excel document outside of IE?

Hi everyone,

A coworker is having a tough time opening an excel spreadsheet from our
intranet into a stand-alone copy of excel. Currently it opens excel from
within his browser. Does anyone know of a setting or two in IE that will
allow him to fire up the spreadsheet in Excel, from outside IE? Thanks!
