Open Browser on Desktop

I'm running XP and upon login, there's an open Internet Explorer page on my
Desktop. It's reduced to about a quarter of the desktop size but it doesn't
have the blue bit up the top so I can't close it, move it or anything. It's
even up-to-date ie. it is my default browser that opens with IE and the date
is always the current one. It's been there for weeks. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Alan,
Alt F4 asked if I wanted to close the computer. I did the System
Configuration, and after re-activating Windows (by phoning a toll free number
which directed me to India), the browser window is still there.
It doesn't seem to pose a problem. It just looks silly and is annoying.
But thanks for your advice. At least I know how to take things off my start
up list now - always learning from you guys. You're invaluable.
Again, many thanks.

Odd? I you used Alt+F4 while you had focus on the window, it should
close it. Can you close it by using the Task Manager?
If it comes back at a reboot, then check in Msconfig for any oddities.
(Start-Run-MSCONFIG-Startup tab)
If you cannot see anything in Msconfig then:

Start-Run-msinfo32
Click the + beside Software Environment to expand.
Click Startup Programs
Ctrl+A to Select All, Ctrl+C to Copy.
Paste that information in your message.

When you open Task manager is there any sign of this running as an application?

Is it still possible to drop a live web page onto your desktop in XP (It is an option in the Desktop customization tab of display properties but it doen't seem to work on my system)? If so maybe you have your home page sitting on the desktop.

Alan,
I'm in trouble. I was able to get rid of the browser (until I rebooted),
through the Task Manager, but I lost my Taskbar as well. Because I keep on
doing it, could you please tell me how I can get my taskbar back without
having to reboot. I was able to open up Internet Explorer by clicking onto
Hotmail from the open browser before I deleted it. Now I'm just Alt+tab(ing)
to see what I have open.
I'm desperate.

You may have some more serious problem but try the easy way to get the
Taskbar back. Press the Windows key or Ctrl+Esc

Hello Alan,
I know this is an old problem, but I finally was able to get rid of it. I
was able to "grab" the title bar and move it and delete it and it's never
come back. I had trouble with all of the other ways, but success prevailed.
Thanks again for your input.
