Hi All,

Did you all ever use Hardware lock or Dongle to protect your software?
How efektif it is?

Thank you In Advance

Yes, I've used dongles. They're OK, I suppose, but I wouldn't touch a
"network dongle" again with a barge pole, they take too long scanning
every address between here and Australia to be any use at all.

Will you let me know how it works? and what kind of mechanism they use to
protect your software?

I don't really know how they physically work, but in logical terms,
you purchase a series of dongles pre-programmed with a unique code or
set of codes of some sort (what they call an "algorithm"). Using
libraries or software provided by the manufacturer of the dongle, you
program the device with your own code numbers or identifying strings.
Then, in the software to be protected, a series of calls (at
appropriate points in the software) are made to the dongle to ensure
that it responds correctly.

That's for a basic dongle on the back of the machine, of course. My
main reason for disliking "network" dongles is that the dongle
software has to search every possible machine available to check
whether a dongle is attached or not, and that can take a significant
time, especially when there isn't one.
