Hi,

I need to customise the OOBE (Out Of Box Experience) and have an example
bunch of html, ini, exes, etc. but what I need is some kind of tech spec /
developer's kit on how to alterand create OOBE screens.

Does such a thing exist? I'm drawing blanks.

Any info appreciated,

Chris

OEMs have an expanded Sysprep capability. With each package of OEM Win XP
licenses they receive 3 (I believe) CDs. Things they can do with it are to
insert branding and special support instructions. Though I haven't had my
hands on their Sysprep, I've read about it in the Knowledge Base (or
somewhere). You can read the OEM parameters on the standard Win XP CD:
SUPPORT\TOOLS\DEPLOY.CAB\ref.chm. That's the HTML Help. Look under
sysprep.inf. Somehow you'll have to wrangle a copy of the OEM Sysprep
tools. Good luck!

Another thought is that there is a factory mode, and factory.exe is on the
standard Windows XP CD, the same place as the Help file. You can read up on
that in the Help file Deploy.chm. This is a level of detail that I've never
gotten into, so I can only suggest where you might look. Search Knowledge
Base with "OEM Windows XP".
