SP2 is a solid, secure release. It is a major "Critical Update"
for Windows XP and updates about 5 million lines of code,
enabling much stronger security, stability, and affords a tad better
performance benefit. I would encourage you to install it.

| Jim,

thats what happens when microsoft does not release the code
to the software manufacturers before updating the operating
system. patch here and a patch there. old macdonald billy
gates. e i e i o

The manufacturers have had the code for several months.
Many just ignored it.
Those that wanted to keep their customers happy made the necessary
changes or information available to their customers.
Some of the others blame Microsoft and suggest not to install SP-2.
With still others there are simple changes to return to full
functionality.
And yet others with their poorly written software may be abandoned
since the manufacturers see no profit in an update.
There are other reasons, but those are some of the big ones.

But your statement "...when microsoft does not release the code..." is
clearly wrong.

Jim;
Wrong.
Many have no problems and they are not morons.
Even those that do have problems are not morons.
However someone like you that makes such an unqualified broad
statement...

Only a moron would call others morons for doing something the moron is
incapable of doing or understanding.

Well, since you're making sweeping statement regardless of expertise and
planning (and of even reading the SP-2 description and technical
details), a like statement would be:

Only morons don't know how to cleanup, stabilize, and disinfect their
systems before applying a monstor upgrade.

Now I wonder in which camp of morons to which Jim belongs. Both.

Jim, I currrently multiboot, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000
Professional Service Pack 4, and Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2, all
three work flawlessly without error messages, or issues< I also am running
all updated driver packages ( ATI 4.8 catalyst, and the latest Sound Blaster
Audigy Update), my system works fine, all apps and gaming.

Jim;

Grab a dictionary...any one will do. Go to the M section....now find the
word MORON in that section....Hey! it's a picture of you!
(Please note that the picture of Jim L under "Moron" is a different picture

I sympathise with the sentiments, but what's the average user going to
do? Either ignore updates completely and get infested by trojans and
viruses, or slap on the update and hope? Only a very small %age of
users is *ever* going to read the documentation,

Cheers,

only slightly... front, back... seems little difference in my webster's..

most of the newsgroups I subscribe to are populated with savvy computer
users with the knowledge and patience to assist the less than totally
enlightened ones in finding thier way through confusing situations.

to make juvenile statements without taking a much closer look at your "big
Picture" and isolating your operator inadequacies to effect the proper
repairs is indeed moronic, a$$inine, and inflamatory.

please post here to be helped or give help.

Yeah I guess I was wrong.....look at today's post in this newsgroup.....ONE
DAY (today's not over yet)....11 problems related to SP2....we are not all
computer geeks able to work through the multitude of problems that SP2
created. If MS wants to make computers for the masses then they should work
out the problems before they release something like this on the general
public. Not throw patch after patch at us.
I forgot rule number one of the computer geeks manual....Thou shall not
criticize Microsoft

Jim;
Except you did not criticize Microsoft.
But you did call a great many of their customers "Morons"

OOOWAAAAH! 11 problems out of how many millions of people worldwide who put
it in?

Yep, dont guess - you ARE wrong!

I retract my statement....not everyone who downloads SP2 is a moron.....only
those who blindly defend Microsoft......MS is a great company but SP2 is not
a good as it now stands.

* for some small percentage of customers.

And it is not like the state of SP2 is going to change with time. SP2 today
will be SP2 tomorrow.

Defend Microsoft? No. Live with what we got? Yes.

What you really mean to say is you goofed up. .

No, you are still a moron, unfortunately. You cant even tell the difference
between blind defence of MS as opposed to defending SP2.

You're an idiot.
