Hello!

My problem is partially covered in topic "Network shares for larger
hardrives". However, my configuration is different.
My problem:
I have established network throught gateway (router). NEW PC connected by
wire to the router, and OLD PC connected via USB wireless to the same router.
I can connect to Internet form any PC. However, only NEW PC can see all
shared files and folders on the OLD PC, not vice versa. OLD PC can only see
printer attached to NEW PC. When I attempted to see Shared Folder on New PC
from the old one, I got this ERROR MESSAGE:

"\\NEW PC name\shared_folder_name is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permisions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command"

My Configuration: all made by Dell
NEW PC: WInXP Home SP2, 2x160 Gbt NTFS hardrives, 3.4 Ghz Intel with HT,
Norton System Works with AntiVirus (no internet security installed - no
norton firewall installed).
OLD PC: WinXP Pro SP1 (originally was WinMe with the same error message, put
XP to resolve that issue and to improve stability), 1x10 Gbt - system HDD and
1x80 Gbt storage HDD all FAT 32, Celeron 600 Mhz. At this point no antivirus
is installed yet, because I want to fix this problem first - so OLD PC is
"naked" - no interference.
Before, with WinME installed I had Norton antivirus and System Work
installed too.
Router:
Netgear.
Network:
Internet
I
NEW PC ------------------ Router ---------------- OLD PC

NEW to Router via wire, OLD to Router via wireless.

That is all.
Any help appreciated, (I am planning to add more things to that network,
after that problem will resolve).
Thanks for any repplies

Gary.

The problem is on NEW PC and is probably caused by Norton Antivirus.

Please see this Microsoft Knowledge Base article for a likely
solution, specifying a value of 15 for IRPStackSize:

"Not enough server storage is available to process this command."
indicates that you are falling foul of the IRPStackSize bug.

The problem is on the machine you are attempting to connect to,
not the machine where you see the error message.

On the computer you are attempting to connect to,
Check the event viewer for an event ID 2011.

Usual fix :
You need to fix a parameter called IRPStackSize

On the computer you are attempting to connect to,
Set the IRPStackSize back to the default (15 ).
Perform the following steps:

1. Start the registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).
2. Navigate to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\lanmanserver\parameters.
3. Double-click IRPStackSize
(or if this registry setting doesn't exist, create it of
type DWORD and ensure the case is correct).
4. Change the base to decimal, set the value to 15, and click OK.
5. Reboot the computer.

Norton AV is usual suspect for breaking it.

There's a KB article about this, too.
You may have missed it, because it's applicability has not been updated
to
include XP:

Thanks for the repply, but so far, after changing value to 15 it is not
woriking yet. Should I increase value further up in the increments of 3 (seen
this in the article provided for win2000 which is up to 50), or do something
else?

How high I can make that value (50 for Win2000), should I go by small
increases, or can jump by big numbers (now I have setup 15). And, what is the
oppposite - if I set value number too high - any problems expected there?
thanks again

Increasing it beyond the value suggested should not be necessary.

The usual reasons for this not working are:

1) You put the fix on the wrong machine.
It needs to go on the machine you are attempting to connect to.

2) You put the fix in the wrong place in the registry.
Double-check:
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\
\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters

Make sure it's in the 'paramaters' key, not one level above in
'lanmanserver' or something like that.

3) You mis-spelled the value.
It it case-sensitive, and needs to be
"IRPStackSize"

Make sure theres no mis-spelling, wrong capitialisation, spaces, etc etc.

Then re-boot the target machine to make sure this has taken effect.

Ron thanks for repply!
Everything in the place, it should be, and no mis-spelling there.
Modifications made on the target machine (NEW PC) only.
Is It problem of only Norton Anti Virus, or also Norton System Works as well
(I have both of them) - maybe I need to make more modifications of some kind?!
Should I reinstall my network?
Any other solutions possible?
Thanks
Gary
