Howdy,

I have 6 systems on our LAN. One is XP, and all the others
are Win 2000.

If I am on the XP machine, I can browse all the others and
can copy a file to the XP machine.

If I am on a Win 2000 machine I can browse anything that is
shared on the XP system.

But, if I try to copy a file from a Win 2000 machine to the
XP system, I get the error that the share on the XP machine
is not accessible.

So, I can only copy a file to the XP system if I am on that
system.

It seems likely that there is some security setting that is
preventing this, but I can't find it.

Can you help?

Sincere thanks,

Firewall settings?

Firewall settings?

Hi Ken,

I should have mentioned that though all systems have
(software) firewalls, in all cases that is OFF (because then
are all behind a hardware firewall.)

Thanks for any further thoughts,

I don't have any other suggestions for you, but I do have a related comment.
My advice is to rethink your not having software firewalls. Although your
hardware firewall provides protection, it's inbound protection only. It
doesn't protect you against outbound threats--rogue programs trying to call
home. For that reason, even I too have a hardware firewall, I also use a
third-party software firewall (the built-in Windows firewall also doesn't
protect against outbound threats) and recommend that others do the same.

Hi Ken,

Interesting...

Thanks again,
