One progran to fix HD problems did me wrong

In preparing for a future Vista installation, I am trying to merge three
partitions on one of my 30 GB HD.

I used a Partition program to merge an empty partition into a bigger one.
Each time, it errored out, and created a new partition on the HD.

Now I have 6 partitions. Ugh!

I also tried to use XP Pro's Disk Management to merge, but I could not do
that.

I also tried to use the free utility Partition Logic, but it froze; I could
not use my mouse to select the OK button.

One way to do is to do a complete reinstall of Windows, and repartition the
entire HD, but this is the last thing I want to do, because it is such an
ugly procedure.

Any one have any recommendations, other than trashing Partition Magic 7?
Won't use it again!

BTW sorry if this is a double post. I did not see the earlier post on the
board.

Try BootItNG which has a fully functional 30 day trial.
http://www.bootitng.com

When you boot from the BootItNG disk do not do the install. That will
put you into maintenance mode where you can manipulate the existing
partitions. Merging partitions is a two step process, and the two
partitions must be physically adjacent in order for this to work.
First delete the empty partition, creating unused space then enlarge
the remaining partition to incorporate that unused space.

Good luck

I'm no expert on this, but I'd try it in safe mode and see
if it works there.
