I'm using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP. I have an earthlink dialup account
that I'm using for SMTP, but it is a Verizon business e-mail address.

The exact text I'm seeing in the error window is:
"Task 'Email - Sending' reported error (0x8004010F): 'The operation failed.
An object could not be found.'"

If I didn't provide enough information please let me know. I appreciate any
help!

This can happen if you are trying to use a server that is not your sending
address' server. In other words, you can't send an Earthlink message using
the Verizon server & vice versa. Set up another separate acct for your
Earthlink email with the Earthlink server settings.

Or... you may be able to still send the message thru the server of
Earthlink... IF you put the Earthlink smtp server in your settings as the
smtp server...
In some cases, this will require changing some other settings as well. For
example, if your Earthlink server requires authentication prior to the
sending of the email, you may have to enter that information in your settings
as well.
Basically, you may have to play with the smtp server settings until you get
it figured out... but in most cases this is 'doable'.

Your address book may be missing or corrupt.

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is
the box to enable as email address book is checked?

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or
address book. If not present, add it, otherwise remove it and close then
restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.
