On loading, windows xp asks me to press delete to
continue. Does anyone know why this happens and how to
fix? It's been acting funky lately....

or is it telling you to press del to enter the bios setup? When does this
message appear?
 
That is a bios message and you see it way before Windows ever begins to
load. Your computer is sending the message, NOT Windows! Adjust your bios
properly, replace the battery (may help) and you will not likely see the
message any longer.
