On-Again, Off-Again Sound @ Bootups

Recently, upon boot ups, I intermittently have or don't have sound. When I
have it, it is normal in every respect. When I don't, there's nothing. This
is a Sony VAIO desktop PCV-RS630G w/Sony LCD SDM-HX93 monitor w/built-in
stereo speakers. It has on-board SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio and a Sony
MPEG Realtime encoder board; all connections tight, reinstalled Soundmax
driver, and even reset BIOS defaults. Same problem. Then installed a
SoundBlaster Audigy card hoping to bypass the issue. Didn't. Still have same
problem. Bizarre. Any suggestions appreciated. Could this be an XP OS issue?
Thanks. Larry

Unplug power to pc,remove the battery, locate the boards CMOS jumper pin,
and move from 1-2 to 2-3 position for .30 seconds or so,then back to 1-2
position, replace battery, start pc.You'll need to reset basic BIOS settings
before
boot-up,date,time,set to optimal defaults, then adjust for any add-in
cards,etc...
