OLE Objects (Images)

Hello,

I recently upgraded from Office XP to Office 2003, and
since i've been using Access 2003, I've noticed that I get
an error whenever I try to open an OLE Object field with
an embeded iamge from an Access 2002 DB.
In the table view, the field says: MSPhotoEd, which I
guess refers to MS Photo Editor, and whenever I double
click the field to activate it's content, i get the error:
"OLE Server isn't registered"
I've done some research about this problem and the best
solution I could get was to reinstall the Ole Service, but
since Photo Editor was installed with Office XP and this
new version of Office doesn't include the program, I don't
know what to do to solve the situation.

Another question that I have is that, when I embed any
picture into an OLE Object field, and when I try to view
the picture in any form (no matter if i use the Image
control or the Bound Object Frame) I always get to see the
name of the package. I don't understand why it's created
as a package instead of the picture itself. In this case,
if I double click the object (whether it's in a Table View
or a Form) it opens correctly into the default image
viewer program.

I would appreciate much if somebody has an answer for me.

Thank you.

Hi again,

I would like to be more specific about the images problem
because I just read justifications in other newsgroups
about the "package" thing.

I understand completely the OLE package concept (the
wrapping, etc), but I still don't understand one thing.
I had an Access 2002 DB in which i embeded images as i
usually did. They showed up as pictures (not just the
filename.jpg reference) in my form (when still using
2002). Now that I've upgraded, I can still see the images
in the form in 2003 with no problem (except when trying to
open it, because of the 'OLE Server' problem), but
whenever I try to add new images and see them in the same
form display, I see the old ones showing up right, but the
new ones showing only the package reference (file.jpg).
Why is this possible? What would be the solution?

Thanks again.

I had exactly the same problem. I managed to get around the problem by
installing Photo Editor from Office XP. Photo Editor sets the JPG, DIB
etc file associations back to itself and then suddenly I could drag and
drop pictures back into my form.

Not sure what the deal with 2003 as it has some fancy picture viewer
which doesn't seem to work with the OLE.

Anyway, just put the old Photo editor on and everyting will be fine. I
only selected Photo Editor from the install so it was only about 45MB
all up.

Cheers
Brad
