Old HDD in new system

I am trying to install an HDD with XP Pro loaded into a new PC using the R
repair function to collect the new hardware settings. The repair installer
asks for the Administrator password but when given it insists it is
incorrect. I have both changed the password and tried without a pasword but
neither seems to work and I cannot get beyond this point.

Any Ideas?

Porting WinXP installations to different hardware is sometimes
possible but not recommended. Just for fun I tried it myself the
other day. Using various tricks, I managed to get Windows
to boot on the new hardware but the speed was atrocious,
e.g. 10 minutes until the machine became usable, one minute
to launch the Control Panel. I then reloaded Windows from
scratch and was forced to tighten my seat belt because it now
ran so fast.

Also: AFAIR, it is the Recovery Console that asks for the
administrator's password, not the Repair process. The
Recovery Console would be quite useless for your type
of exercise.
