Old Dell "Office XP Apps" to New Dell Question

(2) Main Questions: I purchased Office XP Business Option in an '01Dell w/
Win Me; Anticipate New Dell with XP OS and understand Office Apps
"registered" to a Product Key # in order to function. (1) Will MS allow
transfer of Office Apps to New Machine IF I UN-REGISTER FROM OLD Number? How
does that work? (2) Would the Small Business Office XP and XP Media Disks
Load OK on Another Computer Brand or is there something "Tied to Dell" Only
on these disks? Many Thanks!

OEM Windows XP is non-transferrable according to the End-User License
Agreement you accepted everytime you used the system. Old Dell dies - Old
OEM Windows XP dies with it - no matter how pristine the CD/Product Key is.

The OEM Office would probably move to another machine much easier. Give it
a shot.

Thanks, Shenan. I'm really posting to suggest a moment of silence for those
who rely on Dell Online Chat for support. I was told that both OEM OS and
Apps like Office XP CAN NOT transfer to a New Computer Even If Deleted from
old, but Each time I mentioned Office XP they'd come back asking if it was
WINDOWS XP Professional I was discussing. I was given an incorrect 800# and
sent to the wrong Dept. What a shame for what was once a great company. XP
Apps are tied to/registered against my Dell computer's Product Key but I
hoped I could Un-Register from one key, make App unusable on former computer,
and Re-Register to new Dell. Apparently MS wants the $$$$> Thanks again for
answereing.

You saved a lot of money by buying the Dell computer that was loaded with
OEM software. You knew or should have known what OEM means. So, you have
nobody to blame but yourself.

Craig;
"Apparently MS wants the $$$$"
And so does Dell.
Microsoft gives OEMs options and most choose the cheapest since that is what
they feel their buyers want.

You paid a lot less for your OEM software than others pay for retail.
You save the $, now you are seeing one of the many reasons OEM is cheaper.

Which IMHO is a good reason for sticking to computers with standard ATX
cases. ;-)

(Otherwise something as trivial as PSU failure could mean the loss of your
SOFTWARE as well as the box. )

Why would you not just replace the PSU instead of trowing the box out?

John

A Dell PSU can be replaced just like any other PSU, just did a special order
replacement, the Dell PSU was a whopping $39.00
