I changed my computer name in System Properties -> Computer Name but somehow
my old computer still shows up in My Network Places -> View Workgroup
Computers but when i try to access it, it gives me an error (which is fine).
Is there a way to remove the old computer from showing up? I know after a
while the computer disappears but is there a way to remove it immediately?

You created it in network places when it was a legitimate name. It is still
there not realizing it is now illegitimate. Simply right click and delete
it yourself.
It stays there because it does not know that you changed the name of a
computer. From the standpoint of network places, it might be that there is
a computer on the network with that name that is simply turned off. So it is
waiting for that computer to return.

Hi

I had a similar issue recently and did a lot of research with Google ands
also asked a lot of questions but didn't come up with a better answer. It's
as if Network Places doesn't "refresh" when a computer (or shared folder)
name changes. I agree it's a real nuisance because clicking on the false
name generates an error. I hope that this behaviour is corrected at some
time.
