Old Computer Name in Registry

Jem

Having (correctly) changed my 'computer name', I still have left overs in the
registry - i..e. the name 'OFFICE'.

Why haven't they been updated?

Do I need to worry about it if they're not?

How would I (correctly) chage them.

Hello Jem:

Not referencing the Internet itself, does your computer belong to a
/local/ network of other Windows systems with which you share local
Windows resources? If not, the computer name, in your isolated context,
is superfluous in the overall scheme of things. As far as the Internet
goes, you probably have yet /another/ computer name (IP name) that was
assigned by your ISP if you have ADSL or cable access. If you have
dial-up access, the dial-up ISP usually has no need for a computer name
either.

Warm regards,

Pete

I have a LAN, and OFFICE is the old computer name for one of 4 machines on
it. Computer name has since been changed, but the old name still lurks in the
registry. Just trying to preempt any issues this may cause down the line.

Thanks.

The computer name is stored in subkeys under this one:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName]

Note that the name must be in capital letters: ALL CAPS!
