OL2000 & Sending Attachments

several weeks ago i posted a message about a problem with OL2000 and
sending attachments on my WinXP Pro SP1 system. i was unable to send
e-mail with an attachment that was bigger than about 20K in size.
anything larger and the send process would hang up and time out. i
received several replies and suggestions but was not able to fix the
problem.

i put it all aside until yesterday when i took a fresh look. while i
was experiencing the problem with OL2000 and OLExpress 6.x, i WAS able
to send messages with large attachments from my ISP's webmail site.
and i WAS able to send messages with large attachments using OL2000 on
a Win98SE platform. i felt that the problem, whatever it was, was
either with WinXP or with how OL2000 interacted with WinXP. I began
taking a fresh look at everything when i stumbled onto the solution.

checking my modem properties i saw that modem compression was enabled.
once i disabled that i was able to send large attachments again
without a problem. i was able to confirm that this was the problem by
toggling modem compression on and off. it seems simple now but my
experience has been that most problems have simple solutions. i don't
send a lot of e-mail out with attachments but it is nice to be able to
do so if needed.

i offer this information to the group because i've seen postings from
others asking similar questions about sending attachments. i don't
know if my solution will work for anyone else but its worth a try.
