My Windows folder is cluttered with over 1 GB of folders like this: $Name$.
Some appear to be related to uninstalling Service Packs and Windows Updates.

Can any or all of these folders be deleted as long as I don't want to
uninstall anything?

Thanks,
Rick

If you mean $NtUninstallKBwhatever then yes as long as you don't plan to
reinstall as you say. To be on the really safe side, copy them to CD's
or a DVD.

Yes, but do NOT delete $hf_mig$

Thanks very much. This subject doesn't seem to be covered in the KB. After
[maybe] 4 years, these build up.

Why not this folder? It also contains a lot of wasted space for update
backups, it seems.
What is it?

Also, doesn't Microsoft have an "official" way to remove these yet?

I can't believe after all these years that people still have to
manually fiddle with hidden system folders and registry entries to do
this.

If you were astute enough you would learn about $hf_mig$ with a web
search, but you're not, and that's exactly why Microsoft hides folders.
