ok jeeze had to some fixing but got the directx9b going
got right response from Kevin Christian below this works
great and my old puter has now been rejuvinated more.
need to know why microsoft took the latest nvidia &
soundblaster drivers out of updates was it due to further
testing?

Hi Shuber,

They may no longer be flagged. You can check your history
at the update sites using the options on the left side, bottom
section. When it comes to gaming though, you'll be much
better off installing the latest updates from the manufacturers
sites, which in this case are: nvidia.com and creative.com
