Oh the frustration!

Hi all!

Hopefully someone can help me.
While running XP MCE, everything worked perfectly. Now that I have upgraded
to Vista, the media centre stops working after about 10 seconds. I thought
that maybe this was a codec problem so I installed a codec pack. All the
videos, music etc works in media player, but still Vista media centre
crashes. My video drivers are bang up to date with DVI connected to the tv
and I can see the background on the tv and can move windows over to it.
Hopefully this means that it's just software issues I'm having. Another
thing that I just remembered doing. Music doesn't seem to make the crash
happen. It only appears to happen when media centre is scanning the video
files to apply thumbnail images to the file. Hmmm. Glad I remember that wee
bit of info. Hopefully this makes sense to someone.

Ideas anyone? Starting to regret the upgrade.

Many thanks, Scott

I know DivX caused issues like this. Is that still installed?

Thanks for the reply, Paul. Are you the same Paul that frequents UVGX
newsgroup?

I do have Divx installed. If I uninstall this and just have the codec pack
or even the Xvid codec instead, do you think this might help?

Cheers, Scott

That's what I did. Problem solved.

By chance are you using a AMD 64bit processor? I had this same problem, I
updated the processor drivers and everything now works great.
