Offline folder syncing shutdown error

When one of our users is working at home or anywhere other than our office
and have connected to the vpn, they get an error upon shutdown. The offline
files are trying to sync and can't because there is no connection. The
error says that the files can't sync due to a network error and the user has
to hit close. Is there a way to time out this box or not have it displayed?

Perhaps terminate the synchronization before disconnecting? What,
specifically, is doing the synchronization?
